SPIDER
PRODUCER
Multi-Platinum
Spider developed a profound fascination with music early in life. Given free rein of the church organ with no one around, Spider was afforded an unheard-of opportunity to experiment. The unmediated contact with the power of music was revelatory. Later, the enigmatic hits of the 1980s and the unconstrained programming of Princeton’s student radio station opened up new worlds of possibility. This musical bounty led to a singular obsession with record-making.
Spider's talent as a self-produced recording artist caught the attention of industry leaders, who ushered him into the upper echelons of the business. After a fierce bidding war in 1999, Silvia Rhone, then president of Elektra Records, and Irwin Robinson at Famous Music Publishing signed Spider to buzzworthy contracts.
Spider’s remarkable achievements include writing, producing, engineering, and mixing numerous award-winning, record-breaking, and personally-fulfilling projects. His list of collaborators includes bona fide legends, pop sensations, rising stars, and underground DJs.
A crippling frustration with so much studio playback drove Spider to seek out the truth about studio monitoring. This led to serving as the artist relations ambassador for PMC Speakers, the leading manufacturer of high-end studio speaker systems. It was at this post that Spider realized that studio monitoring is a skill one can develop. At PMC, Spider advised a diverse clientele on strategic monitoring choices and fine-tuned hundreds of speaker systems.
Now, as a studio design producer, Spider leverages his vast record-making experience and refined aesthetic taste to advocate for clients who seek a rich and productive studio life.
KYLE MANN
ENGINEER
Grammy-Winning
Kyle's career began in Philadephia as a member of a national touring act. Later, engineering daily studio sessions in Nashville reinforced the preparedness he acquired on the road. Once in Los Angeles, Kyle's skills and high standards made him indispensable to an elite clientele at the intersection of musicianship and hitmaking. Kyle is among the 140 engineers to ever win the Grammy for Best Engineered Album. He was bestowed this accolade for his work with Victoria Monet on her critically acclaimed album “Jaguar II.”
After noting the shortcomings of many well-known recording studios, Kyle took matters into his own hands and turned to acoustics forums. Unsatisfied with the quality of the discourse among many leading "experts," he digested source materials–acoustics textbooks–and, through experimentation, built up a body of knowledge free of snake oil and outdated ideas.
Kyle works from first principles to discover elegant solutions to complex problems. He continues to innovate and make high-performance studio acoustics more accessible. And unlike most studio designers, he understands intimately the implications of his design choices and engineers studios to support profound artistic expression.
